Captain Spotlight: Remo

At PowerHaus Sports, we believe captains aren’t just here to call plays, they set the vibe. And nobody sets a better vibe than Remo.

For him, being a captain isn’t about a title, it’s about bringing good energy, lifting people up, and making sure the court feels like a space where everyone belongs. He’s the one hyping you up after a shanked pass, cracking jokes when the scoreboard isn’t cute, and making sure post-game hangouts are just as fun as the match itself.

Leading with Humor and Heart

“I have been lucky to experience amazing captains in the past, and I wanted to carry forward the things I admired about them while adding my own personal touch.”

That touch is all about encouragement and humor. On the sand, it’s celebrating the little wins and keeping morale high even when the score isn’t in our favor. Off the court, it’s about making sure teammates feel connected and cared for. “These guys aren’t just my teammates,” Remo says. “They’re also my friends whom I care deeply for.”

Building Inclusive Spaces

“For me, it begins with listening. I want every player to feel heard and seen, whether it’s their first game or their hundredth. Being part of a queer-centered league is special because it gives us the chance to show up as our authentic selves without fear or judgment.”

That’s what PowerHaus Sports is all about: volleyball where everyone can serve, spike, laugh, and belong. With captains like Remo, the court becomes more than just a place to play, it becomes a community built on joy, respect, and authenticity.

Keeping It Fun

“When tensions rise, I take a breath and bring the energy back to fun. That might mean cheering extra loud for the small wins, cracking a quick joke, or reminding everyone that we are here to enjoy the game together, not to chase Olympic gold.”

It’s that balance of focus and play that helps his team grow together, not just as players, but as people.

Growth & Mentorship

For Remo, good captains meet players where they’re at. Newer teammates get patience and encouragement for the small wins, while experienced players are pushed to step up as role models. The mix keeps everyone growing together.

“At the end of the day, I remind everyone that fun > perfection. If we’re laughing, we’re learning.”

Advice for Future Captains

“Do it with heart. Skills and strategy are important, but what people will remember most is how you made them feel. Be ready to listen, lead with patience, and never underestimate the power of celebrating small victories.”
