New Player Spotlight: Vincent
At PowerHaus Sports, we believe the heart of our league isn’t just about big spikes and flashy wins, it’s about growth, patience, and the joy of discovering the game. Few players capture that better than Vincent, who only started playing recently but already embodies the exact spirit we want our league to stand for.
FINDING HIS WAY ONTO THE COURT
“I’d always been interested in volleyball. I’d seen a couple of recreational games and it looked fun, but I just never had the opportunity to break into it. A lot of my friends got into it earlier and fell in love with it, and I couldn’t help but try myself.”
That first try, though? Rough and real.
“My very first time was awful. I had no idea what was going on, couldn’t get the ball to go where I wanted, didn’t even really know the goal of the game. But it was really cool seeing how complex the game is, and to set a goal and begin working toward becoming a better player.”
PROGRESS AND PATIENCE
With time and reps, the fundamentals clicked, and so did the confidence.
“The hardest thing for me was passing. It felt impossible at first, but now it’s natural. Mostly I’m proud that I’m good enough that my teammates can depend on me. At the start, I felt like I was holding them back, now I know I can contribute to a good game.”
COACHING & FOUNDATION
Asked what made the difference, Vincent didn’t hesitate.
“I owe all of my foundational understanding and skills to PowerHaus Sports. All of my drastic leaps and improvements have come after lessons here. The patience, the attitude, the time spent teaching me, I couldn’t be more appreciative.”
THE MINDSET OF A COMPETITOR
“I’m an extremely competitive individual. I want to be better than the best players I know. I want my friends to be excited to have me on their team, or dread playing against me. I love picking a specific skill and noticing real improvement, even when I get in my head.”
STRONGER, SOONER THAN EXPECTED
“I didn’t think anything would be outside my capability, that’s just my mindset. But I did think it would take longer to be able to play against stronger players and still do well, so I’m excited I’ve improved as much as I have in this timeframe.”
ADVICE FOR NEW PLAYERS
“Everyone has to start somewhere, and you have to be patient. It’s important to find a group, like PowerHaus, that will be patient with you and have a good attitude. Improvements come with practice and time. The feeling of actually being able to play is addicting. Keep the end goal in mind and give yourself time.”
THE POWERHAUS VIBE
Progress is great, people make it stick. Here’s what the atmosphere feels like from Vincent’s perspective:
“The entire team was so welcoming and helpful when I first started and even now. No one makes you feel bad for learning, whatever your skill level. Any criticism I’ve received has always been kind and constructive. Everyone’s joking, the vibe is light. It’s very different from other environments I’ve been in while learning volleyball.”
BE THE NEXT STORY
Stories like Vincent’s remind us what PowerHaus is about, creating a space where people can grow, laugh, and discover how fun this game really is. If you’ve been thinking about trying volleyball but haven’t taken that first step, take it from him: the right environment makes all the difference.
“Everyone has to start somewhere. Be patient, keep practicing, and the feeling of finally being able to play is addicting.”
